The Entrepreneurial Mindset: Three Feet From Gold

’s book Think and Grow Rich tells the story of R.U. Darby and his uncle in a way that is extremely motivating because in the story, that duo stopped digging just three feet from the gold strike they were looking for and lost millions because they decided to quit. The rest of the story goes on to tell how R.U. Darby became one of very few men to sell more than a million dollars of life insurance a year during the late 1800’s. He learned to not give up when men told him no when he asked them to buy his insurance. He remembered the hard learned lesson of giving up too soon and made a fortune in the insurance industry due to his minor defeat.

R.U. Darby is not the purpose of this particular portion of the series, but it has been said that a smart man learns from his mistakes, but a wise man learns from the mistake of others. So why did I start with the R.U. Darby story? Simple, every person on the entrepreneurial road experiences setbacks and defeats along the way, but the difference between those that experience tremendous wealth and prosperity and those that do not are the lessons learned and applied during the journey.
