Food Allergy Awareness and Delayed SymptomsA very important point about food allergies and food allergy awareness is that the food allergy symptom onset may be delayed, making the allergy even more difficult for a doctor to detect. Let’s take the case of migraine headaches which may be triggered by food sensitivities. The person who suffers from them has never noticed that the headache occurs after any particular type of food is ingested. That’s because the onset of the headache may not necessarily start shortly after the food is ingested. The headache may not even occur on the same day, but may arise the day after. Other symptoms frequently addressed before food allergy awareness.Other symptoms which may be related to food allergies include anxiety, irritability, asthma, joint pain, and irritable bowel. Many times a variety of medical specialists may be consulted looking for a diagnosis related to that body part where the person has symptoms. One person may see a neurologist for recurring headaches, while another sees a gastroenterologist for abdominal cramping and diarrhea. Another person is a repeat visitor to the dermatologist’s office because of recurring rashes. These people have very different symptoms which have the same cause – food sensitivities. Consider yet another scenario which causes something of a medical mystery. A person feeling very fatigued is tested by their doctor for ailments typically known to cause fatigue – anemia or thyroid problems, for example. The doctor doesn’t find anything wrong and sometimes concludes “it’s all in the patient’s head”. What might never be considered is that food sensitivities themselves may manifest in some people as generalized fatigue, and when they have muscular and joint pains they may suffer from fibromyalgia – chronic fatigue syndrome. I have had the distinct pleasure of seeing symptoms – some of which have been troublesome for years – relieved with food allergy awareness and the true underlying cause was discovered and treated. For instance, some patients who describe themselves as having a “sensitive stomach” suffering from abdominal discomfort for years, find themselves relieved of these symptoms through ongoing food allergy awareness where the offending food sensitivities are identified and avoided. Others who see themselves as “headache prone” and assume that stress is responsible, find relief when they know what foods to avoid. A simple in-office testing procedure can be done to properly identify these food sensitivities. It is also important to understand that a program of desensitization can relieve the person of their symptoms so that it is possible to eventually reintroduce the food into the diet without adverse effects. The subjects are junk foods and foods devoid of nutrition. While most of us are subject to putting foods in our bodies that would qualify as junk food – potato chips, corn chips, soda, ice-cream, processed sugars, bleached wheat, fast foods, msg, nitrates and nitrites, seltzer water, and many more – many of us are looking for ways to improve our health, reduce our fat and lower our weight, lower our cholesterol, triglycerides, and the many things that our doctors are telling us that we need to do. Can we find what we are looking for in organic foods and vegetarian diets, or simply “good eating”? The answer is no. To get the true balance of food energy that we need to grow and stay healthy, we should all be looking into the technology of the best superfoods. I am not saying that “eating right”, such as organically grown local foods, grass-fed happy meats, loading up on fruits and vegetables, and drinking filtered water, for example, How anti aging systems are affected by the Telomere and TelomeraseThe study of DNA has been going on for decades. You may remember that the entire human genome, the approximately 30,000 DNA strands, has been completely mapped as of just a few years ago. The project began in the 1980’s and the final DNA strand mapping was published in 2006 in Nature magazine. One of the discoveries that went along with this mapping is the existence of the telomere and telomerase. Telomeres are the nucleic acid sequence of base pairs found at the end of every DNA strand. They have been compared to the little plastic wrappers at the end of a shoelace, and they are, in theory, used to keep the DNA from unraveling and becoming useless. They are referred to as the protective cap at the end of the strand. Telomerase is the enzyme that helps the body generate more telomeres. When we are born, there are around 8,000 base pairs of telomeres at the end of every DNA strand. The telomeres are involved in helping these strands to split and recombine to create new cells (mitosis), and they are there to protect the genetic information of each strand; to create whole and healthy cells. Each time the DNA splits and recombines a number of telomeres are consumed during the process. When people die of old age the average number of telomeres is at around 1,500 base pairs. Science has determined that the DNA strands stop reproducing when the number of telomeres drops to that range, the depletion threshold. This is aging. Telomere and Telomerase: Keys to the Latest Anti Aging Systems?Several theories have been postulated and are being heavily researched as to whether telomeres could be the key to anti aging systems, and also a key to cancer prevention and treatment. Telomeres are created by the enzyme telomerase. The body uses this enzyme to replace the base pairs as they are consumed in the cellular reproductive process. Healthy amounts of telomere and telomerase should keep the human body from aging, which is the effect of DNA strands no longer able to reproduce in a health way due to having too few telomeres. Therefore, aiding our body to have an abundance of telomeres and telomerase is now believed to be the strongest support for anti aging systems, similar to the effect of removing oxidants from the body helps to keep our cells healthy and alive. My colleagues and I first heard about this research and the search for a healthy, natural and organic trigger to help the body produce more telomerase, at the Celebration event that Isagenix International held in San Diego in August 2010. One of the key telomerase researchers, Dr. Bill Andrews, joined master formulator John Anderson (founder of Isagenix) on stage to introduce the concepts and to talk about the research toward creating specifically designed anti aging systems. This product has been created and is now being released. It is called Product B. There is a huge excitement around Product B, as you can understand, and this product introduction will be one of the events that will turn Science Fiction into Reality. To be a part of this wave of change that is occurring in the realm of health and anti aging systems, we should all take a serious look at Isagenix. Our time has come. It is never too late to slow down the process of aging! Since this product is only starting to be introduced, please contact me for further details. Thyroid and Weight Gain Symptoms Are Common, But There Are Many OthersThere are a number of signs and symptoms that people need to be aware of so that the problem can be brought to the attention of their doctors. If the doctor is unresponsive to these concerns, the patient may best be served by seeing a doctor who is aware that many people testing “normal” via the TSH test, will indeed benefit from thyroid treatment. The following paints a picture of what many people may notice about themselves that might cause them to have this looked into. If a person’s thyroid has become under-active, which is a very common condition, especially in women over the age of forty, they are fatigued. Given an under-active thyroid and weight gain without any change in diet could occur. These folks will also complain that they cannot lose weight, even when they properly adhere to a weight loss plan. There are other physical signs to be aware of. Along with the feeling of general fatigue a person may feel a sense of weakness. Dry skin and a tendency to bruise more easily may be noticed. Constipation is an important sign. A person may complain of feeling cold, more than others in their company in the same environment. Facial appearance may change with a puffiness of the face and eyes. Hair loss occurs, and may be noted at places other than just the scalp, such as on the arms, legs and the underarms. A classic sign is loss of the outer 1/3 of the eyebrows. Hair and nails become dry and brittle. Other than the common thyroid and weight gain and the others previously mentioned, depression may accompany hypothyroidism (under-active thyroid). As a resident in Internal Medicine in the 1980′s, I remember our chief of staff, an elderly doctor nearing retirement at the time, speak about how, in the days before blood tests were available to diagnose and under-active thyroid, doctors had to use their knowledge of the signs and symptoms of the problem to properly make the diagnosis. He described visits to hospital wards where severe depressed patients were kept. He observed cases in which depression resolved when the person’s hypothyroidism was diagnosed and treated, and the person was able to leave the psychiatric ward and return home. The effect on the body of thyroid hormone involves so many functions that there are many other symptoms as well as those mentioned above. Menstrual problems such as irregular periods, PMS, and infertility may occur. Is your cholesterol elevated? This too may be a sign of an under-active thyroid. Before committing to long term use of medication to control cholesterol, if a person recognizes the signs of an under-active thyroid, and they are treated with thyroid, the cholesterol level will come down. Summary: There are many more symptoms than just the common thyroid and weight gain connection. In summary, it is important that the under-diagnosis of an under-active thyroid be understood and acted upon. Since thyroid hormones play a part in overall body metabolism, clearly seen in thyroid and weight gain complications and such varied functions, there are a wide array of clues that this is a disorder that needs to be considered by their doctors. Furthermore, for a person to be properly empowered so that they may act upon this knowledge, it should be recognized that many doctors simply do not treat as per the ides in this article, relying solely on the TSH number and whether the person’s test falls within the “normal” range. If it does, the person is simply told that their thyroid is fine. In that case, if the patient recognizes any number of the myriad of signs and symptoms above, they may need to find a physician who recognizes these developments in the diagnosis and treatment of hypothyroidism and thus may offer treatment that the first doctor did not, including thyroid and weight gain.
