One of the greatest trainers and mentors in the home-based business industry is a good friend of mine, Drew Berman. A while back he called me all excited and said that he had had a great conversation with one of the internet marketing geniuses, Cedrick Harris. After a brief discussion as an introduction, Drew called in a few others on our team and then dialed in none other than Cedrick Harris for him to talk with us directly. It was a high energy call.

One of the first points that Cedrick made was about the attitude that someone must have when on a call, or really anywhere when one is talking about their business. Passion is contagious. Here I was listening to a high energy person that was speaking with such enthusiasm and volume that I had to turn my phone down to stop it from distorting! Energy! He demonstrated what he was talking about by speaking in a quiet, relaxed, very conversational tone for a few sentences. He was right. It didn’t elicit much of a reaction in me or the other listeners. Energy! Cedrick Harris energy! He went on to make some other great points about staying focused on the business and putting out the right thoughts to become super successful.

After the call I decided to do a bit of my own discovery on Cedrick Harris, so I looked him up. I discovered a story that is so similar to mine and so many others that I have talked to. Here he was working hard at a JOB, trading all of his time, and I mean all of it – no family time, no vacation – for an industry that was on the decline, mortgage brokering. He was extremely successful in the industry before the decline, but now he was spending an unbalanced amount of time on the JOB instead of his quality of life. With this in mind, he quit his six-figure a year JOB and started to turn his attention to internet marketing. Using research with DVDs, books, MP3s and other resources, and a great new tool for online marketing, he was able to implement his new lifestyle by becoming the number one recruiter in his business in the internet marketing realm.

Cedrick Harris is a wonderful example of how to become successful being your own boss in a home-based business. That is how to live the ultimate lifestyle. I had a great chuckle when I looked him up and then found in the result page a picture of him with none other than Drew. Great minds do think alike!

My last blog entry raised an eyebrow or two for sure!  Even better and to bolster my point, all my feedback was offline comments and questions.  That’s exactly why we marketers need to bring our offline and online worlds together, blur the lines!  The number one question on how to bring our offline and online marketing worlds together is … HOW???  How do we do it?  What can we do offline that cannot be ignored, can produce dramatic results, is completely duplicatable, simple, and even fun that can bring together old school skill and the power of technology?  It’s all about High Tech AND High Touch.  Remember – as good as you are on the internet – you still need to keep it real.  It’s still about the people, connecting with and helping people.

Check with the best out there, they’ll tell you the same thing:  drop cards!  Drop cards are simple cards with an image of $1, $5, $20, or even $100 bills (I like the $100 personally) on one side and a quote and your web site address on the other.  It’s simple, inexpensive, and incredibly effective.

Now, how can these drop cards be used?  Don’t just leave piles of cards on retail counters around town.  Be strategic!  Here are some effective drop card techniques, as offered by the drop card KING and from whom I learned these techniques, Cedrick Harris.  Surely, the benefits will be obvious so I’ll spare the details.

Techniques for Duplication and Lead Traffic using Drop Cards

1. Leave a drop card in the gas pump credit card slot at your local gas station.  Better yet, leave one in every gas pump credit card slot at your local gas station!
2. Whenever you receive junk mail with US Postage Paid envelopes, mail it back with nothing but a drop card inside.
3. At the newspaper stand, leave a drop card inside each remaining paper, free real estate magazine, “pennysaver” periodical, etc.
4. Leave a drop card inside the SkyMall magazine on the airplane.
5. Leave a drop card in motivational books, such as “The Secret”, “Rich Dad, Poor Dad”, and “Think and Grow Rich” in the local bookstore or library.
6. Leave a drop card with a tip for hotel housekeepers, waiters, and waitresses.  (It goes without saying that you cannot be stingy when you do this!)

The possibilities are endless!  Think about how many cards can be easily distributed.  With only a 5% to 10% response ratio, you can still find yourself with more leads than you’ve ever imagined!

Who are you?  Who are you being?  Are you a human doing or a human being?  Most people in direct sales and network marketing talk and talk and talk.  Some would find them quite entertaining.  They talk about their company, their product, their comp plan.  They come back at the end of the day and tell their spouse (who may or may not be supportive in this industry) and entertain him or her with their stories about how great they are going to be and how rich they are going to be.  How many names and numbers did he get?  More importantly how many appointments?  Sales?  Show me your day and I’ll show you your future.  Yesterday I listened to a teleconference with Cedrick the Prospector.  His name is Cedrick Harris. Boy, did he teach a thing or two about prospecting. 

He said you don’t go out to prospect, you prospect while you are out.  Brilliant!  He said to get your favorite cd about this industry – his was “What Would You Change if Your Annual Income…Suddenly Became Your Monthly Income? by Bob Proctor.  Cedrick said to put your info on a sticker on the cd and give them out creatively and often – so that people call you.  Cedrick said to think outside the box.  How about this – on your commute to work, and on the way home, pay for the car behind you at the toll booth.  Give the toll booth collector money for your car and the car behind you, and tell the toll booth collector to give the guy behind you the cd.  Hmmmm.  I was definitely entertained last night by Cedrick the Prospector, not prospected by Cedric the Entertainer.
