Happy Fourth of July! Today is a celebratory day. One of the great American Holidays. The second official start of summer after Memorial Day. A day surrounded by friends and family, burgers and beers, and of course fireworks.

Although it is a big party for most, it is certainly a significant historical holiday, one that honors our country’s independence. Do you have veterans in your life? Friends or family members that are protecting freedom around the globe? Fathers or grandfathers who served in past wars? Sisters or girlfriends who are abroad, in danger, fighting for freedom? Freedom isn’t free. Thanks to all that serve and who have served.

Now, what about your financial independence? Are you willing to fight for your freedom? Your financial freedom? Tomorrow as most shuffle off to work, with the holiday weekend a distant memory, here are:

7 Tips to Help with Financial Independence

1. Spend less then you earn. Period. If you invest 10%, and you donate 10%, then you will always be wealthy. In Kiyosaki’s Rich Dad, Poor Dad he talks about what the poor, the middle class and the rich do on pay day. The poor pay bills, the middle class buy things, the rich invest. What do you do and what do you teach your kids?
2. Write it down. Time to tally what you got and what you owe. With financial independence, numbers don’t lie. And it’s probably not as bad as you think. Once you have it down on paper, you know where you are, you can track your growth. What you track, what you focus on, expands. So know your numbers.
3. Work with professionals. Surround your self with experts – accountants, lawyers, financial planners. Let them do what they do best so you can do what you do best. Create a team. A fort of financial soldiers – so to speak protecting your ASSets!
4. Study. Listen to financial advice. Read a book. Study the industry. Learn from the experts. Money is a game. You either win or you don’t. Your choice. But guess what, you deserve to win the money game. Once and for all. Managing your money is a skill. Any skill can be learned. Any learned skill can be mastered. Cher said “I’ve been rich and I’ve been poor – rich is better!”
5. Define financial freedom. What’s your definition of financial independence? There are many, and you must define your own. Kiyosaki said one level is when your passive income exceeds your expenses. Some say they do what they want with whom they want whenever they want for a long as they want. Define financial freedom. What’s your definition?
6. Dream. Dream big! What would you do if your bank account was full and your calendar empty? What would you do if your alarm clock was thrown away, you have long since fired your boss, and it was a Tuesday? What are you doing tomorrow? Are you Jumping Out of Bed (…job) to be Just Over Broke (…job) to be part of the BBB club (busy but broke). It’s not that jobs are bad, but this is Independence Day, right? Is your job interfering with your independence? Just something to think about…
7. Join a network marketing company. Yes, it’s true. You can actually achieve financial freedom through network marketing. You can actually be independent, financially. Yes, you can make an extra couple hundred a month to help ends meet, and yes you can make an extra couple hundred a week to start banking some coin, and yes – you can achieve financial independence. A review of Robert T Kiyosaki‘s latest book, The Business of the 21st Century by Seth Lefferts

Are you ready to get excited about the business of the 21st century? Seriously, I mean really excited!? I am and I am. I am very excited! It was many years ago that I read a book by Robert T Kiyosaki called Rich Dad, Poor Dad. To my horror, I had just made a decision a few months earlier that was entirely against the concepts of this amazing book. I had the misguidance to take a nice sum of money that I had received from trading stock options and I used it to pay for two years of my kid’s college, the down payment for a house, pay off a car loan, and buy a bunch of furnishings for the house. In other words, I spent it.

I did some great things with it: true. I used it wisely: false! After I read the book I realized that I could have invested the money, using the dividends to pay for these things over time. Then, when all was said and done, I would still have had the money ready to work for me in other ways. I was a Poor Dad: true. I have been an Employee most of my life, and now have been Self-Employed for the past few years with my own consulting business. It has generated a very nice income, but my outgo pretty much matches it, so I am really not much better off because of it. I just look and act affluent!

It was a painful lesson that I have been looking to correct for all of these ensuing years of working the JOB – just over broke – as someone else’s “slave”; well, the truth be told, me being a slave to the bills that I am generating. I am just trying to pass the blame onto someone else! But, in the end, it’s just me.

Searching for the Business of the 21st Century

So, with that in mind, I have been looking around for years to find the business of the 21st century — a business that I can easily build. I am very skillful at many things, but my skill set requires me to be actively working, employing one or another particular skill, for me to earn an income; the classic definition of Active Income. When I stop, it stops in-coming.

However, I know that I am capable of learning new skills, so a year ago as I was pondering my dilemma, I listened to the wise advice of a friend and I joined a Network Marketing company. Here I sit, one year later, as I am learning a new set of skills, which are working, but slowly. It has had me scratching my head and asking myself if I have done the right thing – yet again. What am I becoming? A sales person? An entrepreneur? A Rich Dad? I don’t want to be in sales, although it is and has always been the highest paid job in the world. I like being an entrepreneur. I definitely want to be a Rich Dad. Still, am I on the right track here in my new business of the 21st century?

A couple of weeks ago I picked up Robert T Kiyosaki’s newest book, co-authored by John Flemming and Kim Kiyosaki, The Business of the 21st Century, and my old friend and mentor (sort of) has been speaking to me again. Well guess what? This time I seem to have made a phenomenal choice! I have given myself the tools that I will need to become the Rich Dad and to build my own business. I have become a business owner!

Robert T Kiyosaki, well known for his bestselling book, Rich Dad Poor Dad, deeply believes in the power of the “human spirit”. Now – many people define this phrase in different ways, but I am talking about that something deep inside a human being that pushes them to dream big, desire positive change or hope for the better, become curious about the future, etc. In today’s times with high foreclosure rates and dwindling savings accounts, the recent economic downturn has caused many people’s spirits to become broken. As the news continues to predict what will happen next with the global economy, Kiyosaki spends his time teaching others how to do the total opposite of what the news is reporting by focusing on how to prepare for what lies around the corner.

Robert T Kiyosaki Breaks the Cycle

Kiyosaki is a teacher of financial literacy. He often quotes the ancient Chinese proverb, “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” But contrary to the advice most Americans have been loaded with since childhood, his teachings often come as a shock to many who listen. Lines like go to school, work hard, get a GOOD job, save money and pay off debt are burned into our minds, but Kiyosaki largely disagrees with these age-old teachings, calling them BAD FINANCIAL ADVICE. By challenging and changing the way individuals think about money, he gives people a shot at reaching their dreams and gives hope to rebuilding shattered spirits.

Mind Exercise by Robert T Kiyosaki

Your “financial” mind needs to be exercised if you expect to make educated decisions about spending. Kiyosaki remembers his fathers, one rich and one poor, by saying his poor dad always put his mind to sleep when it came to money matters. However, his rich dad welcomed the challenge of overcoming mental hurdles because he believed the more he knew, the more money he would be able to make. This is the philosophy that has most impacted Robert T Kiyosaki’s life and continues to do so to this day. At age nine, he decided to follow his rich dad’s lessons about money. For him, it was being able to directly compare the mindsets and lives of his two fathers – apples to apples — that gave Kiyosaki the advantage of opening his mind to one day achieving financial freedom.

Today, Robert T Kiyosaki is recognized as one of the most influential financial coaches in the world. He has written bestselling books and now helps individuals become financially literate with mentoring programs designed by him and a host of expert advisors. Kiyosaki is paying it forward the lessons he has learned from his two fathers along with knowledge obtained throughout his adult life.

Organizational Theories

I am currently half-way through, The ABC’s of Building A Business Team That Wins and find it to be pretty over-the-top. He starts the book off by saying that there are four main skills an entrepreneur must have or learn — sales, accounting, investing and leadership — but the premise of any organization is sales. Without sales, the company cannot exist. This book is geared to the small business owner, or entrepreneur (which fits the model of this blog well). Robert Kiyosaki, author of the Rich Dad/Poor Dad series of books, is Blair Singer’s best friend. Robert was trained in the military, which offers some of the best team building in the world. Robert Kiyosaki and Blair Singer suggest organizational theories based on the code of honor that is necessary in building any team.

The ABC’s of Building A Business Team That Wins is themed around the code of honor. How do you treat your partners and teammates in times of trouble and challenge? What are your rules around practice? Blair says organizational theories suggest that in the absence of rules, people tend to make up their own. Developing the code of honor creates accountability and a feeling of support and is a powerful statement of who you are and what your team stands for.

Where do these organizational theories apply?

So to whom does this apply? A school principal? The owner of a restaurant? The VP of sales and marketing for a fortune 500 company? A network marketer? Hmmm…. Now, Robert Kiyosaki is a big fan of the network marketing industry. Blair Singer, on the other hand, seems focused more on brick and mortar businesses. Though he does not mention the network marketing industry, per se, a lot of the organizational theories carry over. He states,

The heart and soul of every team is its Code of Honor. Rules like being on time, practicing, showing up, attending training sessions, committing to personal growth or never abandoning a teammate in need — these rules not only ensure success, they make the game a lot more satisfying to play. Great relationships don’t happen by accident. There is usually a common understanding and set of rules holding you together.

I appreciate and love how Singer speaks of business as a game. It is a game. It’s a game of moving people through a system, having them like a product or service, spend some money, and, if your heart is in the right place, profits should well represent satisfied customers. More satisfied customers = more profits. Good formula. Profits are akin to a score card, right? I mean, after all, it’s only a game!

Examples of these organizational theories at work

I am currently in a contest called the IsaDerby (www.isaderby.com). It’s a national competition of teams of 6. The top 15 teams will win a cruise. As a team, we must improve our communication, help others in need, and go for it together….AS ONE.

Similarly, in a cross country running race, the only way your team can win is if the whole team finishes relatively close together, close to the front of the pack. In other words, having a superstar who runs ahead of the pack and places first doesn’t do the team any good if everyone else is all spread out across the field. Leave no teammate behind.

Organizational Theories: Qualities of a Great Team Player

• Energy — surround your self with people who have GREAT energy
• Unstoppable desire to win
• Willing to let someone else win
• Personally responsible — no blaming or justifying (or complaining)
• Willing to submit to the code
• Unique talent or ability

As you build your team, you have to mutually decide how you are going to play — lemonade stand on the corner or a hot, winning enterprise; convenient relationship or life-long devoted marriage; a bunch of folks dabbling in a mutual interest or a championship team. When you study these organizational theories — and practice the code of honor — you too can create championship teams.

I have been a student of organizational theories, in general, and the code of honor, specifically, for several years now. I continue being a student of Robert Kiyosaki and Blair Singer and other great authors, books, coaches, mentors, and trainers. My library is full and it is growing. It is a constant area for personal development and improvement that keeps me in the game. From prospecting to team building to money management — I am studying from the best of the best. As I build not one, but several championship teams, we continue to thrive, even as the economy shifts. We are currently putting together a dream team of entrepreneurs that are going to win and win big. We are going to the Super Bowl this year and we are still looking for some key people that want to play on a winning team. Join us. By now, you have inevitably heard of Robert Kiyosaki‘s Rich Dad, Poor Dad series of best sellers. But have you read any? From an MLM review perspective, I highly recommend all of them. In the meantime, check out this MLM review-themed video where I spend a few moments describing the general message in Kiyosaki’s best-seller, Rich Dad, Poor Dad.

One other point I’d like to recognize from Rich Dad, Poor Dad is this:
The notion of “streams of income”, which I feel is particularly relevant to the network marketing industry. After all, most people that enter the industry, do so as a part-time operation, in essence, creating an additional stream of income for themselves. It’s, arguably, the foundation of the network marketing industry! And it’s smart! The network marketing industry is perfect for helping anyone easily create additional streams of income. And if you stick with me, that can become your primary means of income!

But I digress from the MLM review – the point of this post. Robert Kiyosaki takes his real-life, practical experience and compares and contrasts how the rich approach assets and/or money versus how the poor and middle class do so. It’s fascinating to self-assess while reading such a book. Again, I highly recommend Kiyosaki’s Rich Dad, Poor Dad to anyone that feels as though they might benefit from Kiyosaki’s perspective, from both “sides” of the fence.

MLM Marketing, Bill Clinton, and The American Dream

President Clinton believes that by working hard, playing by the rules, and taking responsibility for your own family and future, you will live “America’s Basic Bargain” – prosperity, growth and self-support. This is the work that he promoted while he was President of our country. Mr. Clinton sees that a cornerstone of the future of a successful U.S. economy is going to be based on MLM home based business, and the people doing it will be living their dreams, the dream that all Americans want – the dream of financial freedom. This dream is all about having great health, abundant wealth and the time freedom to enjoy it all – all of which is achievable through an MLM home based business. In this video, he goes on to thank all of us who are in direct sales in a network marketing company for helping to keep America alive and flourishing. He believes that we are the basis of the free American economy.

If I had any doubts about investing in an MLM opportunity and getting into a network marketing company, I don’t have them anymore. Each day I hear more and more people that I know of and respect for their success endorse the network marketing industry as the future of free enterprise. For instance, check out what Robert Kiyosaki, best-selling author of “Rich Dad, Poor Dad”, Jack Canfield, best-selling author of the “Chicken Soup” series, Donald Trump, and now Bill Clinton are saying. So when my financial adviser made fun of me for picking up MLM marketing and joining the network marketing industry and bet me dinner that in a year I would not be at my financial goal through my MLM business, I was very happy to accept that bet. I am already thinking about which restaurant we will go to.

If you are on the fence, it is time to get off of it and go for it. If you are standing on the edge of the pool, then dive in head first and see how deep it goes. Your best action will be to find a great network marketing company, a great sponsor, and to get to work.
