Small Business Coaching

True to servitude leadership form, rather than view this from my own perspective today — or that of the leader in any organization — and provide coaching tips, here are some things to keep in mind when you are looking for someone to provide you with personal, life, and/or small business coaching. What are the characteristics that you should consider when searching for a success coach? These are important! Make a good selection and your success duplicating these efforts and providing others with small business coaching will soar. Select a poor mentor — and “poor” in the sense that they simply may not jive well with you — and you’re destined to achieve mediocre results at best. (That’s where the poison comes in! )

Personal, Life, & Small Business Coaching — Picking the best, to provide the best

• The Jive — Do you really jive with this person? Does your potential success coach leave you energized or exhausted? You’re probably going to be taking a lot of direction from this person. If they bend you the wrong way, that will get old quick. You need to like your coach. When you become a coach to others, keep this in mind as well. Note that not everyone can coach everyone. Not all personalities work well together. It’s not personal. Move on.
• Do your homework — In the network marketing industry, small business coaching talent that lacks the talent to obscure their lack of network marketing success is a clear sign that perhaps you should look elsewhere for your success coach.  It’s a little catch-22, I know, but there are a lot of people out there.  It’s probably best to pick up the phone and have a conversation.  After 5 minutes, you’ll know if your prospective mentor has the goods.
• Accessibility — Speaking of picking up the phone, when you did so, how long did it take you to get a hold of this person?  Whether it be personal, life, or small business coaching, accessibility is key to a good relationship.  If you’re trying to accomplish something, waiting days — or sometimes even hours — to get direction is unsatisfactory.  Definitely keep this in mind as you turn the corner and begin coaching others.  You need to stay grounded!
• Servitude Leadership — Again, I strongly believe that, as a leader, you’re goal is to help others succeed.  Therefore, in my opinion, your success coach should provide the direction necessary for you to succeed.  That is not to say that in providing small business coaching, they “do the work for you.”  Not at all.  On the contrary, a mentor will challenge you, drive you, guide you, and ask you questions that should open your eyes to your own personal answers.
• Walk the walk — It would be difficult to expect that someone who is an expert in one type of business be a success coach to someone in an entirely different business.  Personal and life coaching aside, small business coaching is most beneficial when both parties are in as closely related businesses as possible.  Of course, in network marketing, they would have an upline/downline relationship.  But, on top of that, you might expect that your prospective network marketing success coach be keenly aware of both offline and online marketing strategies, attend many industry events, have relationships with both company leadership and/or key associates, and have relationships with industry experts as well. (Like me! )
• Who is their success coach?  When interviewing your prospective coach, find out who guides them.  Have you heard of these people?  Maybe not — but that’s OK.  What is more important is what makes that mentor special to your prospective coach.  The relationship that they have with others will likely be similar to the relationship you have with them.  Plus, you’re likely to take on characteristics of all of these mentors.  Is this attractive?  Be the judge!

Small business coaching is not easy.  Picking a success coach using these guidelines will help you help yourself ultimately become a great coach someday as well.  In network marketing, that translates to a large team, and a larger paycheck!  And, well, there’s no poison in that at all!

If you ask anyone that has started their own business from the ground up, they’ll surely tell you that it was tough. Well, though the network marketing industry facilitates some aspects of the traditional business start-up — depending on the company, of course — it still requires a significant degree of perseverance. MLM tips: most people that leave the network marketing industry typically do so just as they are at the cusp of MLM success; the edge of break-though! It’s truly unfortunate!

So, you’ve decided to research one of the true experts in the network marketing industry. Wise decision. Tom “Big Al” Schreiter has been a giant in this industry for over 35 years. His journey into the network marketing industry began in the early 70’s with the first few years being a rough go of it and full of roadblocks. However, it wasn’t long before he was able to break through and become an expert on nearly every aspect of network marketing.

Alright, we are off to a good start but I’m curious, dear reader, what actually brought you here today? So lets focus…Are you looking for a mentor? Maybe you want to find out what “Big Al” can do for you? Maybe even looking for a good network marketing company and product with staying power? If you’ll allow me, I think I can assist. Please read on…

It was through Tom Schreiter’s emails on tips and reports, that I internalized the meaning of network marketing as a people business, a relationship business. It is truly a matter of connecting with others and forming bonds that last a lifetime. The fact is that people are comfortable with what is familiar, with people they already know and with whom they trust. However, simply having those connections and relationships is not enough to be successful. Most friends and family will not do business with us simply because of relationships. And if they did, it certainly wouldn’t be something long term. Succeeding in network marketing boils down to a lot of people requiring product REGULARLY.

Lets also remember that most of us are concerned with what is good for us; our needs and wants come first. The end result is if you don’t have a good product or it’s something others don’t need then why would they use it? These are the types of tips you’ll receive from “Big Al” Tom Schreiter and how he can help you succeed and build your business.

I think from here the next obvious move is finding yourself that success coach. You see, for me, “Big Al” has provided very useful information. But I need something more. I have nothing against Tom Schreiter (this isn’t really about “Big Al”, after all)- he’s fantastically brilliant in the industry. In fact, there are many MLM leaders out there that are ready, willing, and able to provide great tidbits. But right now, I need more than emails. Yes, everyone has their own needs. Well, I need someone I can personally relate to, ask for guidance anytime, and get the occasional “You’re kicking butt!!! You’re awesome!!! Keep doing what you’re doing!!!” type of speech. It also helps to have shared experiences and work shoulder-to-shoulder with someone similar to me, having such tremendous success. I appreciate working together with someone who was able to break free from the 40–45 year plan that most of us signed up for in our late teens and early 20’s. I know what you are thinking, “it’s a tall order,” but it’s what I need and want, and I think all of you will agree.

This was about the time that I met my success coach, Drew Berman. You see, Drew has been involved with sales, marketing, and advertising for well over 20 years; over 10 years specifically in the network marketing industry. He has reinforced what I’ve already learned and taught me that “believing is seeing”. What? Let me say that again, “Believing is Seeing”. What this means is that you have to believe in yourself and with the right attitude you can see what WILL be. This is the second post in a series about my building a new business in the network marketing industry and the success coaches helping me get there as quickly as possible. It isn’t something that is just going to happen by itself. It takes courage through adversity, focus on clear goals, stick-to-it-iveness (I love that word), hard work, and it takes help from others who already know how the business works and who can help me to be successful in anything I choose to do. My new business is in a field that is totally new to me. It seemed scary at first and somewhat beyond my reach, but I am confident that I can stay with it long enough to succeed. In my opinion, my two most important assets are my belief in what I am doing, and my guides – my gurus.

Last time I talked about a success coach who has been of incalculable assistance to me, in both focusing me on the tasks that will help me achieve MLM success and following up with me to see that I am doing them. His name is Drew Berman (www.drewberman.com). He is teaching me the nuts and bolts of the network marketing industry. He has also introduced me to another man who is helping to build the character within me that I need to be successful in any business; to be successful in whatever I choose to do in life. He is a life-coach named David Wood.

I first met David on a phone call that Drew put together. When you catch a name on a phone call and have a brief conversation with someone, you can get a sense of what kind of person is on the other end of the line, but you can’t really understand just who you are talking to until you meet them face to face, or see them in action. A few days after my phone conversation with David I traveled to Phoenix, AZ for a three day training offered to me by my new company. This was an offer that I found to be crucial for me to accept if I am going to build a business and not just create a new hobby, so I jumped on it with 6 days notice. The host of the weekend was David Wood. It was there that I was able to see David in action and then to finally meet him in person.

David has a very compelling story which you can find at http://DavidTraining.com. Here is a man who was not expected to amount to anything, in view of his actions as a kid. He didn’t accept the ‘advice’ and criticism that he received at the ripe age of 15. Instead, he went out into the world on his own to discover his calling in life. What he learned is that he has a gift for engaging people, connecting with them, and coaching them to reach levels in their lives that they never thought were possible to attain. I have seen him in action and he is incredibly likable and engaging. He is funny and sincere – very believable. These are the traits that make him immediately successful in touching me underneath the veneer. He gained my trust and affection before I had even met him. I listened to his stories and took copious notes when he spoke about self-awareness and self-improvement. He is animated and inspirational. After only minutes I was pliable and coach-able and ready to learn, and that is what I have been doing ever since.

During one of our breaks I was able to meet David, who gave me a bear hug and fully accepted me into his circle of life, making me feel welcome and OK to be me. He is someone that I can believe in and that I know will help me to blossom and grow into the best human being that I can be. Look him up to have your own experience.

As you can expect from a success coach, when I read about other success-minded individuals, I pay attention. I recently had the opportunity to delve into the works of Denis Waitley and, while he continually kept me wanting more, I appreciated his message. His words of wisdom have been recorded in best-selling books and audio programs, such as The Psychology of Winning, Seeds of Greatness and Empires of the Mind, which have been translated and distributed around the world. The following are points I took away from material Denis Waitley writes that I felt would be valuable in helping you in your journey towards MLM success.

Reiterating that one should chase your passion, not your pension, the legendary Denis Waitley finds happiness in pursuing his passion and helping others do the same. In fact, “if you are not doing what your passion is, you are putting it on layaway,” Waitley says. “One might work at something simply to receive a paycheck, but any free time should be used in pursuit of one’s ultimate goal.” How many of you readers can appreciate this statement? In the network marketing industry, passion flourishes. Yet, at the same time, most only do it part-time. Full-time and self-sustained network marketing is truly an achievement — an achievement made by only a small percentage of the whole. At the same time, that’s a goal for many. And so they pursue in their free time. Find it within yourself to drive that passion towards MLM success! Never give up. I know this is a passionate topic so please comment below!

Denis Waitley shares other golden nuggets of wisdom and winning insights

Allow positive trigger words and emotion to flow through your mind constantly. Erase negativity and negative phrases like, “Don’t fall.” In time, you will find it easy to spin every negative into the opposite positive outcome. Rather than “Don’t fail,” choose “Win!” Use positive and reinforcing words of Olympic champions as motivation: power, explode, speed, and win. Create positive and reassuring phrases like, “I can do this!” and, “I will succeed!” Condition yourself to respond positively by repeating these phrases often and, specifically, when negative circumstances strike.

As mentioned previously, Waitley suggests that you chase your passion, not your pension. Over the years, Denis Waitley gave at least 500 speeches for which he was never compensated. He recorded and analyzed every one to determine what worked and what didn’t in order to achieve his dream of becoming a writer and public speaker. By chasing passion and over-devlivering with value, compensation is returned in droves.

Study the lives of successful people. Most successful people aren’t considered successful in their early years. Those early years, however, are when the hard work of building a foundation to support that success in later years is done. Understanding how successful people became successful, rather than simply focusing on their success alone, will help you understand the blueprint from which you can freely adapt your own plans for MLM success.

Surround yourself with people who exemplify characteristics that you want to portray. Hang around optimists to become optimistic. Refresh your spirit by socializing with people who don’t just see the glass half full but are willing to share that glass with you. They will likely appreciate the fact that they’ll gain so much more.

A final note: one thing I’ve learned in the network marketing industry is that it’s great to read and learn endlessly but it’s another thing entirely to implement, to take action. I always encourage my team to internalize that which they read and implement in their own context. This is the first in a series of blog posts on the Gurus, eh-em, Success Coaches that are helping me to become the most successful network marketer that I can be.

What is the quickest way to learn something new? Read books? Good. Watch videos? Great. Find yourself a guru/mentor/success coach? Definitely! I know from experience that I can learn on my own by plugging along with manuals and demonstrations. However, I have often found that my interpretation and the techniques that I learn from self-instruction and self-discovery have got to be the most convoluted and the hardest way of doing whatever it is that I am setting out to do. Trial and error? Ouch! It works, and at some point I know that I will probably learn that way too, but it is slow and painful. There is nothing like having someone who is an expert to show you how it is done. Usually, I react by saying “I didn’t realize how easy this really is!” Obviously, to me, I had not figured it out on my own. So now, I always start by finding an expert to guide me, my guru.

I started a new business recently and …

…I am new to the industry. It is the network marketing industry, what is also referred to as multi-level marketing, or MLM. Whatever you may want to call it, the business is all about cultivating relationships, prospecting and bringing people into your business, as a new customer or as a business building partner. Sounds like most other types of businesses, but there are things to learn about every business that will be the steps to success. This is where my success coaches have come along, right when I most needed them, and have been taking me to new levels.

First and foremost, I believe that the internet is our greatest new tool for any business, and especially to build a business based on relationships. What a fantastic tool have we received in our lives – the internet; access to millions and millions of people. I have been able to find just about everything I have ever reached out for on the internet, obscure and forgotten books and movies, music, news and information about pretty much anything. Also, I have found people. People I have not spoken to or seen in many years. But, perhaps just as important, I have found my newest and most profound gurus.

My first personal success coach, and now a friend, is Drew Berman. I found Drew through searching Google for internet marketers and trainers. His site, www.DrewBerman.com, popped up after doing some searching on pertinent key words. I already knew his name from talking with other network marketers that I know, so I followed him to his site, www.MySuccessGuru.com, watched his video and decided to follow up with him. I joined his team to learn how to harness the internet as a prospecting tool. After phone calls together I began to learn what it takes to be successful in getting your presence on the internet active and how to drive your site up in the Google searches. It is not easy and there is a lot of work behind it. Drew is one person that I recommend if you are trying to do the same thing. His learning curve was much steeper than yours ever has to be.

Susan Sly is one of the most upbeat, vivacious, and successful leaders in the network marketing industry and a great success coach. Susan Sly’s Millionaire Secrets

1. Common ground – this should be the longest phase of any conversation and most important of Susan’s millionaire secrets. Finding common ground and developing a rapport with the person you are talking to is the key to cultivating a relationship, and the first step towards MLM success. Urgency and importance come from building tension around a deep cogent point that you both feel passionately about. Building tension about the weather is superficial and will not evoke the emotion that you are looking for. It is more about speaking to an emotion about something real – like the terrible situation in Haiti and how we can help. The concept is to “Slow down to speed up”.
2. Affirm the person – compliment the person on what they do and what they have already achieved in life. Tell them what you like about them. Tell them why you would like to have them on your team.
3. Ask permission – find out if it is alright to talk about a business or opportunity that relates to what you have learned about them and what they are passionate about. Is this a good time to introduce the network marketing industry? Would you like to learn more about an MLM opportunity? Can we talk about your goals and how we can work together to achieve them?
4. Information – give them the information they are looking for to help them make their decision, and ask them if they are ready to take the first step! Virtually everyone is waiting to be asked. Then, get their information.

Think about these steps. People want to do business with other people, not with companies or products of faceless voices with no personality. People want to have trust before they commit to something new and adventurous.

We can all benefit from working with someone that we know to be knowledgeable and a great teacher. Sometimes it takes the right words, sometimes it takes a push in the right direction. Susan is such a person. Drew Berman, of course, is such a person, and there are many others. When the time is right you will attract someone like this into your life to take you to the next level.

MLM Marketing Advice - Beach Money by Jordan Adler

Beach Money is a book that, in a broad scope, offers advice about MLM marketing especially geared toward the newcomer and the inexperienced. Jordan starts by taking the reader through the experiences of his early years in the network marketing industry. He started from basically a bare bones place in his life, proceeded through the trials and errors of researching and learning, and eventually mastered and perfected his own “system” of MLM success. Here is an average guy who joined and worked in over ten different network marketing companies, only to find failure after failure, before finally joining his twelfth company.

Realizing what he had been doing wrong, he was able to create and build a very effective and successful MLM marketing strategy that wound up taking him to an elite level in his company and in his industry. Many of the examples of his experiences in very real terms resonated with me and caused small mental barriers (some I was not even aware existed) to finally be broken down. Confidence building was one of the biggest rewards I received from this book and the reminder that in order to build a successful business in the network marketing industry you must be keenly aware of who your prospects are and of the extreme importance of the relationship that you build with them.

There are a few inspirational quotes that I would like to share with you from Jordan Adler that go hand in hand with the material in Beach Money and the very personal process of building a successful business in the network marketing industry.

• “Appreciation (of your people and prospects) over self-promotion”
• Be a “Go Giver” (as opposed to obviously a go getter)
• Maintain “razor-sharp focus”
• “Every thought that keeps you from taking action towards your dreams is a brick in the fortress of your own prison”

These are words of obvious wisdom spoken from someone who has “been there and done that” and is willing to share his knowledge and advice in MLM marketing to anyone who may be open to it. I have definitely found value for myself in this book and I feel especially fortunate to be in a place where I have access to my own success coach Drew Berman who’s advice only further solidifies that which I have learned through reading.

This is, of course, not to mention the idea of earning a comfortable income while reclining on a beach chair under the shade of a palm tree with the ice slowly melting in a nearby drink while not-so-attentively keeping an eye on the inbox displayed by the nearby laptop notebook.

Now that’s inspiration for lifestyle!
