Don Miguel Ruiz: Author of The Four Agreements and The Fifth Agreement

Eight or nine years ago now I was given a book to read. It was short and easy, which is always nice, but the message that I took away from this book was the greatest life-changing lessons that I have had from any book before and, almost, since. I say almost because the author of that first book has given me two more wonderful books that have enhanced the lessons and added to my guiding principles in my life. The first book is The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. A truly remarkable piece of work. Four seemingly simple agreements to make with yourself. You can read a review about The Four Agreements right here in this blog and begin to see what he is teaching.

Since then, I have had the fortune to discover some of Don Miguel Ruiz’s other books, The Voice of Knowledge and The Fifth Agreement, which was co-written with his son, Don Jose. These two Toltec warriors have a wonderful message to deliver to us and it will serve you throughout your life if you really embrace the teachings.

Most of the success coaches – my gurus – who I have had in my life I have personally known or met at a training event. They give me hugs and hands-on knowledge that I can take with me and incorporate into my life’s pursuit. I have not had the fortune of meeting Don Miguel Ruiz or his son yet. Still, they stand out as two of my most important teachers, because what they have taught me so far has enabled me to stop the voice inside my head, the Voice of Knowledge, that is perpetually trying to take me down and lie to me, and to give me the tools to raise my standard of living, both inwardly and outwardly. Ironically, my son had the wonderful experience of hosting an event with them as the guest speakers. I guess I would have to call that attraction off by one degree. Still, I can feel their energy through him as he tells me about them.

Having decided to build a business in the Network Marketing industry I have been faced with the challenges that we all must face when building a new business, especially one that requires a lot of action on my part to get things going. One of the hardest self-discoveries than any of us has to face is how we take rejection. The Second Agreement simply states “Don’t take things personally.” If there was ever a lesson to apply here, here is an ideal opportunity, and it really works. It works in personal relationships and it works in business. It is a great lesson to take to heart, but you must believe in it for it to really work. As with anything, belief is what makes it real. Hey, that’s true with lies most especially. Think about this, a lie only exists if you believe it, the truth exists whether you believe it or not. This is the essence of the Fifth Agreement and it is the one that will transform you to a new level in your own life.

David Wood: Your Success Coach – Everyone Needs a Guru, Part 2

This is the second post in a series about my building a new business in the network marketing industry and the success coaches helping me get there as quickly as possible. It isn’t something that is just going to happen by itself. It takes courage through adversity, focus on clear goals, stick-to-it-iveness (I love that word), hard work, and it takes help from others who already know how the business works and who can help me to be successful in anything I choose to do. My new business is in a field that is totally new to me. It seemed scary at first and somewhat beyond my reach, but I am confident that I can stay with it long enough to succeed. In my opinion, my two most important assets are my belief in what I am doing, and my guides – my gurus.

Last time I talked about a success coach who has been of incalculable assistance to me, in both focusing me on the tasks that will help me achieve MLM success and following up with me to see that I am doing them. His name is Drew Berman (www.drewberman.com). He is teaching me the nuts and bolts of the network marketing industry. He has also introduced me to another man who is helping to build the character within me that I need to be successful in any business; to be successful in whatever I choose to do in life. He is a life-coach named David Wood.

I first met David on a phone call that Drew put together. When you catch a name on a phone call and have a brief conversation with someone, you can get a sense of what kind of person is on the other end of the line, but you can’t really understand just who you are talking to until you meet them face to face, or see them in action. A few days after my phone conversation with David I traveled to Phoenix, AZ for a three day training offered to me by my new company. This was an offer that I found to be crucial for me to accept if I am going to build a business and not just create a new hobby, so I jumped on it with 6 days notice. The host of the weekend was David Wood. It was there that I was able to see David in action and then to finally meet him in person.

David has a very compelling story which you can find at http://DavidTraining.com. Here is a man who was not expected to amount to anything, in view of his actions as a kid. He didn’t accept the ‘advice’ and criticism that he received at the ripe age of 15. Instead, he went out into the world on his own to discover his calling in life. What he learned is that he has a gift for engaging people, connecting with them, and coaching them to reach levels in their lives that they never thought were possible to attain. I have seen him in action and he is incredibly likable and engaging. He is funny and sincere – very believable. These are the traits that make him immediately successful in touching me underneath the veneer. He gained my trust and affection before I had even met him. I listened to his stories and took copious notes when he spoke about self-awareness and self-improvement. He is animated and inspirational. After only minutes I was pliable and coach-able and ready to learn, and that is what I have been doing ever since.

During one of our breaks I was able to meet David, who gave me a bear hug and fully accepted me into his circle of life, making me feel welcome and OK to be me. He is someone that I can believe in and that I know will help me to blossom and grow into the best human being that I can be. Look him up to have your own experience.

Your Success Coach – Everyone Needs a Guru, or two, or three…

This is the first in a series of blog posts on the Gurus, eh-em, Success Coaches that are helping me to become the most successful network marketer that I can be.

What is the quickest way to learn something new? Read books? Good. Watch videos? Great. Find yourself a guru/mentor/success coach? Definitely! I know from experience that I can learn on my own by plugging along with manuals and demonstrations. However, I have often found that my interpretation and the techniques that I learn from self-instruction and self-discovery have got to be the most convoluted and the hardest way of doing whatever it is that I am setting out to do. Trial and error? Ouch! It works, and at some point I know that I will probably learn that way too, but it is slow and painful. There is nothing like having someone who is an expert to show you how it is done. Usually, I react by saying “I didn’t realize how easy this really is!” Obviously, to me, I had not figured it out on my own. So now, I always start by finding an expert to guide me, my guru.

I started a new business recently and …

…I am new to the industry. It is the network marketing industry, what is also referred to as multi-level marketing, or MLM. Whatever you may want to call it, the business is all about cultivating relationships, prospecting and bringing people into your business, as a new customer or as a business building partner. Sounds like most other types of businesses, but there are things to learn about every business that will be the steps to success. This is where my success coaches have come along, right when I most needed them, and have been taking me to new levels.

First and foremost, I believe that the internet is our greatest new tool for any business, and especially to build a business based on relationships. What a fantastic tool have we received in our lives – the internet; access to millions and millions of people. I have been able to find just about everything I have ever reached out for on the internet, obscure and forgotten books and movies, music, news and information about pretty much anything. Also, I have found people. People I have not spoken to or seen in many years. But, perhaps just as important, I have found my newest and most profound gurus.

My first personal success coach, and now a friend, is Drew Berman. I found Drew through searching Google for internet marketers and trainers. His site, www.DrewBerman.com, popped up after doing some searching on pertinent key words. I already knew his name from talking with other network marketers that I know, so I followed him to his site, www.MySuccessGuru.com, watched his video and decided to follow up with him. I joined his team to learn how to harness the internet as a prospecting tool. After phone calls together I began to learn what it takes to be successful in getting your presence on the internet active and how to drive your site up in the Google searches. It is not easy and there is a lot of work behind it. Drew is one person that I recommend if you are trying to do the same thing. His learning curve was much steeper than yours ever has to be.
